Hi, I'm new and have a 318 with 589 hours. I have a leak at the hydro control shaft on the trans which I believe has been leaking since I bought it last spring (553 hours). Always thought it was suction hose/filter but it recently got alot worse. Removed deck put tractor up on jackstands and crawled underneath and saw it leaking from hydro control shaft. I have not yet dropped the diff/trans, still cleaning. How hard to remove the seal without dissassembling the trans? I feel no excessive play in the shaft but I have not disconncect the hydro control linkage. I don't really want to pull apart trans if bearing is good. Any ideas?

Hi Moleman!
With some home made tools "I" could remove/replace the seal with the trans in the chassy.
It may be easier to remove the trans and put it up on a work bench though. That way you can inspect the shaft and work in uncramped positions for installing the new seal.
If you can power wash the entire working area so you dont get and dirt in the rear when taking the trans off.
