OK, we need a picture thread so here is my attempt at starting one. This is my 1988 Onan 316 that my Dad bought new and gave to me going on 2 years ago. I mowed just over 7 acres with this when it was new till I moved out in the early 90s. It only was used to mow with till I got my hands on it, now it sees a 54'' 4 way blade and a few other things I made for it. Here it is right after I painted it. These are some of the graphics I made for it. Here are some of the upgrades I have done. Stainless handles and 318 split brakes. 318 H2 swap with hydro cooler. Blade feet Seat spring upgrade Here are 2 shots of my 50'' deck. Before After I guess thats enough to start things off. Please tell your story of how or when you got your 300 series JD and post some pictures!

Nice work you did there!
Did you use JD paint or automotive? It has a great shine! The flames and little skid tape patches are a nice touch
BTW, you know that it is actually a 318 now with all the mods, correct? ;D

Thanks!
I used JD rattle can green and Krylon sun yellow as far as paint. The next time it needs painted I'll more then likely go with real JD spray gun paint with hardener and maybe even clear coat.
I made the flames as a goof but they quickly grew on me. I'm working on some new ones with a grass pattern printed on them....might be neat. You are the first person to say anything about my weird grip tape job...lol I remembered from when it was new I always would scuff the paint with my heel so I just added more tape to cover those areas.
I don't consider it a 318.....maybe a 316.8 or something like that...lol
I still need PS to be a 318, but I have no plans for that.

I like the name one the 316.8's blade. Looking that good it will be a real shame if you actually use it.

I do use it and it don't look that good anymore but it held up better then I thought it would.

Yeah, blades have a rough life.
I got a can of Myers Snow Flo paint that holds up well on one off brand blade, I just wish it were closer to JD yellow.
I have to get some pics of the 317 I picked up to post.
I just went back on 3rd shift and Im knackered.

SWIGIN, just had to tell you what a nice job! I love those chrome handle on the side, looks like the newer gen JD mowers. How did you bolt those on there? Just by screwing up from under the fenders (bolt upwards)?
