I have seen a lot of people doing this mod recently so I thought I would throw my hat in the ring and see if I could iron out some of the issues some people have had. The biggest mistake I see people making is using the wrong Hydro motor for this task. Having a 20lb motor that can create 500ftlbs of torque is just not necessary and ultimately looks sloppy and functions poorly without a lockout valve. I chose this motor for my blower chute rotator. It is made by Lamina. Then I fabbed up a mount to fit it. The one I got did not have the mounting flange, but they offer one with a flange where you could simply bend up or weld a simple 1/4" steel bracket. Heres what it looks like installed, pretty slick if I do say so myself. Here you can see the small spool I made for the cable. I used a thinner cable than the original as I needed the flexibility to wrap it around my small spool. You'll also notice Im using flow control valves. IMO these are critical if you want any reasonable level of control over your chute. This comes in handy when working around cars and houses as you can better control where the snow and the occasional rock goes. I decided to make the spool small due to the motors reacting so fast to help slow the chute rotation down. I Still have some hoses to sort out but overall Im very happy with how this turned out. Ill post a video soon so you can see the level of control Im getting.
