Hopefully someone can help me out, I am trying to locate the oil drain plug on an earlier Onan 18 hp Onan. I been told it located on the right frame rail hole, NOT there on either side, I went to the local JD Dealership and the tech said its under the engine, he mever located it so I left assuming it would be located under the engine, the only thing I could find was a small wing nut that was holding another piece of plastic that worked kinda like a boat plug, I had a heck of a time getting the wing nut off because the screw turned along with the wingnut..aaarrrrrrgggggggggg, Im really upset, I could not get whatever the thing is to come out of the engine, I dont even know if its the oil plug...is it? I appriciate any help anyone has because I'm out of ideas, I have contacted the individual I purchased it from but they know nothing. Thanks Jim Attachments:

Hi Jim! You didnt specify which engine you have (B43 or a P218) but the drain valve on your engine should look like this. Once you find it it will open by unscrewing the T shaped bar counter clockwise. This is my least favorite part of an otherwise outstanding tractor. Let me know if this helps.

My 83 had the drain plug only on the bottom. It was very hard to get to. When I got it a previous owner had stripped the threads to where it leaked oil. I bought a "new" oil pan and this one had the drain on the side. Some oil pans have both drains.
Bet the oil in yours hasn't been changed for how ever long the owner before you had it.

Maybe this will help. "A" points to drain plug. OP, you will also want to note the tube pointing towards the drain pan. Without this tube in place the oil will leak all over the frame and go everywhere. .

The b43. Do you know where it is located? I have looked everywhere. Thanks Hello I have a 1983 John Deere 318 that I Placed an Onan P-218 in it last winter but it still has it's B-43 Oil Pan. My Oil Pan drain bolt is just behind the steering rod that goes across the under side of the Tractor. I think it takes a 3/4" socket to drain the Oil. Later one's had a drain Pet cock under Neath and later one's yet had the side frame rail drain Location as is shown in the Part's diagram. You will have to look close to see it as it is up inside the engine mounting plate area but it is there. I hope this Helps, Kurt
